Sights in Dénia

Start your stroll through the old town at the Castillo. The fortress dates largely from the 18th century. From here you have a charming view over the city and the surrounding area.

And at the Museo Arqueológico, you can learn extensively about the region’s long history. More dedicated to the everyday life of earlier times is the Museo Etnológico, which you can visit afterwards.

Here you’ll learn a lot about the lifestyles of wealthy merchants in days gone by. If you’re in the mood for some extensive sunbathing, head for Playa Marina. The main beach of Dénia is fine sandy and stretches for many kilometres.

Since Dénia is not overrun by tourists, you are sure to find a quiet spot. Afterwards, you should just stroll a little through the town, observe the locals and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere.

Find the special restaurant

Northwest of the harbor many restaurants have settled. It’s hard to choose here.

We recommend the Cerveceria Sal i Sucre. In the simple restaurant you can enjoy the best tapas in a relaxed atmosphere.

Find the special hotel

For such a popular place, there are surprisingly few hotels. At La Posada del Mar, you’ll feel right at home. The property is not far from the castle.

All the rooms are individually decorated and stylish. The staff takes excellent care of the guests and fulfills almost all wishes.

Exploring the surroundings

Visit Cuenca, about 300 kilometres from Dénia. The drive will take a little time, but the unique landscape of La Mancha makes up for it.

Here you will follow in the footsteps of the famous knight Don Quixote. In many villages you pass, time seems to have stopped.

Many windmills characterise the landscape – Don Quixote waged his hopeless battle against one of them. In Cuenca, a fascinating old town awaits you, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. First, visit the Gothic cathedral, built in the 12th and 13th centuries.

Excursion to the “Hanging Houses”

After that, check out the Casas Colgades, for which Cuenca is famous. The “Hanging Houses” were artfully built into steep rocky slopes. If you want to see one of the “Hanging Houses” from the inside, you can visit the Museo Abstracto. Here you will find a collection of abstract artworks under old beams.

As the return journey to Dénia takes over three hours, you may consider spending the night in Cuenca. At the Hotel Leonor de Aquitania, you’ll reside in an old 18th-century palace. Many of the stylishly furnished rooms have beautiful views of the city and its surroundings.

There are also good restaurants in town. Visit the Mesón Casas Colgadas. Here you can expect typical cuisine in a rustic ambience. While you wait for your meal, you can plan at your leisure which places you want to visit on the way back to Dénia.
